Who is Hachiko?

Hachiko was an Akita dog born in Japan in 1923, and his story is one of the most touching examples of a bond between a pet and its owner. Hachiko was brought to Tokyo by his owner, Professor Hidesaburo Ueno, from the University of Tokyo. The two quickly formed an inseparable bond, setting a daily routine that showcased the power of companionship.

Every day, Hachiko would accompany Professor Ueno to the Shibuya Train Station, waiting patiently for his return in the afternoon. This routine carried on until one fateful day in May 1925, when Professor Ueno did not come back. Tragically, he had passed away at work, leaving Hachiko heartbroken yet determined.

Despite the profound loss, Hachiko continued to wait at the train station every day for nearly ten years, holding on to hope and loyalty. His incredible commitment captured the hearts of the local community and soon became a national symbol of steadfast devotion.
